The Regional Agency of the Žilina Self-Governing Region, in collaboration with PEDAL Consulting and the Žilina Self-Governing Region, successfully hosted the workshop “Development of Bioeconomy in the Žilina Region”. The workshop took place on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, in Žilina and gathered representatives from Local Action Groups alongside other key stakeholders involved in the bioeconomy sector.

The subject of the workshop was the presentation of the main results of the “Regional Analysis of Bioeconomy Development in the Žilina Region”. The analysis covered several support actions within the framework of the ROBIN project and  included the presentation of many findings such as the potential to use rich sources of unused straw, hay and wood chips for energy purposes, more effective biomass sources management, composting, waste management, as well as the opportunities for networking, cooperation and funding were presented in detail.

The presentation was followed by fruitful discussions on the current opportunities, challenges and barriers in the process of developing circular bioeconomy in the Žilina Region. All participants emphasised that sustainable management of natural resources—including by-products and waste—and robust support for local communities are essential for fostering bioeconomic growth. Such strategies not only promise to boost regional development but also address economic, social, and environmental challenges.

The organisers extend their gratitude to all co-organisers and participants for their contributions to the success of this insightful event.
