Description: BIOMODEL4REGIONS aims at supporting the establishment of the innovative governance models at local/regional level to achieve better informed decision-making processes, social engagement and innovation to support and strengthen EU and international science-policy interfaces to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

Name & duration: SUSTCERT4BIOBASED – Sustainability Certification for Biobased Systems (2022-2025)

Type of action: Horizon Europe Coordination and Support Action

Description: SUSTCERT4BIOBASED aims at assessing and promoting the adoption of sustainability certification schemes and labels for industrial biobased systems to support tracing the sustainability of the products along the EU and international value chains and trades.

Name & duration: BioRural – Accelerating Circular Bio-based Solutions Integration In European Rural Areas (2022-2025)

Type of action: Horizon Europe

Description: BioRural aspires to create a pan-European Rural Bioeconomy Network under which related stakeholders will cooperate to promote the currently available small-scale bio-based solutions in rural areas to increase the share of Bioeconomy, giving increased value in such remote areas.

Description: MainstreamBio aims at setting out to get small-scale bio-based solutions into mainstream practice across rural Europe, by offering innovative digital tools.

Type of action: Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Action

Description: SCALE UP aims at supporting regional multi-actor partnerships, consisting of private businesses, governments and policymakers, civil society organisations, and researchers in identifying and scaling-up innovative and sustainable bio-based value chains that build on regional resources.

Name & duration: RELIEF – EuRopean Bio-Economy ALliancE In Farming (2022-2025)

Type of action: ERASMUS-LS

Description: RELIEF will develop and deliver an innovative approach for teaching bio-economy in farming, by developing specific learning resources addressing Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) students and farming practitioners.

Name & duration: P2Green – Turning human sanitary waste into fertilizer (2023-2026)

Type of action: Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Action

Description: P2Green aims at fostering a paradigm shift, from a linearly organised resource and nutrient system within the agri-food supply chain, towards a circular material flow system between urban and rural areas thereby restoring the coupling of the water-agri-food system using a holistic symbiotic resource management approach following the 3R principle “Reduce, Reuse, Recover”.

Type of action: Horizon Europe

Description: CEE2ACT aims at empowering countries in Central Eastern Europe and beyond (Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia and Slovenia) to develop circular bioeconomy strategies and action plans through innovative governance models.

Name & duration: RuralBioUp – Empowering EU Rural Regions to scale-Up and adopt small-scale Bio-based solutions: the transition towards a sustainable, regenerative, inclusive and just circular bioeconomy (2022-2025)

Description: RuralBioUp’s main objective is to support innovators to scale-up inclusive and small-scale biobased solutions in rural areas.

Name & duration: BIO2REG – Enabling transition towards circular and systemic BIOeconomy model regions by a REGionsto-REGions approach (2024-2026)

Type of action: Horizon Europe

Description: BIO2REG‘s main objective is to enable the systemic transition of greenhouse gas intensive regions through concrete and actionable measures to become bioeconomy model regions.

Name & duration: BIOTRANSFORM – Circular BIOeconomy TRANSFORMation for regions by enabling resource and governance networks (2022-2025)

Type of action: Horizon Europe

Description: BIOTRANSFORM provides European policymakers with an adequate assessment and policy development framework, knowledge base and expert support ecosystem to accelerate the transition from linear fossil-based systems to circular bio-based systems. It is therefore operating at the interface between the circular economy and the bioeconomy transitions.

Name & duration: RIBES – Regional Inclusive Biobased Entrepreneurship Solution (2024-2027)

Type of action: Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Action

Description: RIBES seeks to transition nine European regions from outdated, linear economic approaches to dynamic, circular economic models that foster social inclusion.

Name & duration: SUSTRACK – Supporting the identification of policy priorities and recommendations for designing a sustainable track toward circular bio-based systems (2022-2025)

Type of action: Horizon Europe Coordination and Support Action

Description: SUSTRACK aims at supporting policymakers in their efforts to develop sustainable pathways to replace fossil and carbon-intensive systems with sustainable circular and bio-based systems (at the EU and regional scale), contributing to achieving the European Green Deal’s objectives.

Name & duration: NENUPHAR – Nutrients recycling and pollution handling (2023-2027)

Type of action: Horizon Europe Coordination and Support Action

Description: By recovering nitrogen and phosphorus from waste streams, the NENUPHAR project aims to provide competitively priced fertilisers and other products for the food value chain while promoting cleaner soil, air, and water systems.

Name & duration: BIOLOC – Biobased and social innovation to revitalise European local communities (2022-2025)

Type of action: Horizon Europe Coordination and Support Action

Description: BIOLOC aims to revitalize local communities in 12 European regions by advancing biobased and social innovation, fostering inclusive and circular production and consumption systems, and driving sustainable development through participatory approaches and multi-stakeholder collaborations.

Name & duration: BioINSouth – Supporting regional environmental sustainability assessment for the BIO-based sectors to improve INnovation, INdustries and INclusivity in SOUTH Europe (2024-2027)

Type of action: CBE JU Coordination and Support Action

Description: BioINSouth aims to develop guidelines and digital tools, considering the safe and sustainable by design (SSbD) assessment framework, to support the adoption of  environmental assessment in multiple industrial bio-based systems, targeting eight case-study regions (Campania – Italy, Andalusia and Asturias – Spain, Centro – Portugal, Peloponnese – Greece, Nouvelle Aquitaine – France, Cyprus and Slovenia) and the creation of HUBs.

Name & duration: BioGov.Net – Mobilizing European Communities of Practice in bio-based systems for better governance and skills development networks in bioeconomy (2022-2025)

Type of action: Horizon Europe Coordination and Support Action

Description: BioGov.net will contribute to establishing innovative governance models in the bioeconomy. In eight countries (Estonia, Italy, the Netherlands, Greece, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Portugal and Germany) by providing an inclusive training and mentoring framework and building a bridge between knowledge and skills in the bioeconomy, secured by effective governance.

The project will have a role in enabling better-informed decision-making processes, improving the social engagement of all actors and increasing the uptake of sustainable innovations in the bioeconomy.
